[01] HOUSE PRESIDENT CYPRUS SOLUTION DEADLINE
House President Yiannakis Omirou pronounced on Tuesday that the Greek
Cypriot side ought to reject any attempts by the UN and Ankara to set
July 1st 2012- when Cyprus will assume the presidency of the European
Council- as deadline for a solution of the Cyprus problem. At the same
time, he noted that we need to exert pressure on Turkey in order to
comply with the Security Council Resolutions.
Speaking to the Press, on the sidelines of a visit to Nicosias Primary
School Elenion, House President underlined that unfortunately we
witness at attempt by the UN and by Ankara to convert July 1st to a new
May 1st 2004 -when Cyprus joined the EU- thus exerting pressure on the
Greek Cypriot side to accept any solution.
[02] ARCHBISHOP OF AMERICA OFFICIAL VISIT
Archbishop of America Demetrios arrives on Tuesday to Cyprus for an
official visit.
During his meeting on the island, Demetrios will meet President
Demetris Christofias and Archbishop Chrysostomos II.
He will also have meetings with House President Yiannakis Omirou and
Education Minister Andreas Demetriou.
[03] INTERIOR MINISTER - GREEK LANGUAGE - ASYLUM SEEKERS
Learning the Greek language is extremely important for the integration
of migrants-asylum seekers and beneficiaries of international
protection in the Cyprus Society, Interior Minister Neoklis Sylikiotis
said on Tuesday, addressing a press conference held by the Cyprus Labor
Institute (PEO-INEK) and the University of Cyprus.
The conference was held in order to announce the conclusion of two
actions co-funded by the European Fund for Refugees and the Cyprus
government for the instruction of the Greek language to asylum seekers
and beneficiaries of international protection.
The programs were held between November 2010-June 2011 and the total
cost is estimated to 185.00 euro, 75% of which was funded by the EU and
25% by the Cyprus Government.
