[01] BELGIAN SENATE PRESIDENT - CYPRUS VISIT
Belgian Senate President Danny Pieters arrives in Cyprus for a visit
following an invitation by Cypriot House President Marios Garoyian.
According to an official press release Pieters will be received by
President of the Republic Demetris Christofias and the meet House
President.
He is due to have separate meetings with Minister of Labour and Social
Insurance Soteroula Charalambous, Famagusta Mayor Alexis Galanos and
Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou.
Pieters who will be accompanied by Belgian Senate Secretary General
Hugo Hondequin.
[02] PACE - CYPRIOT MP
Chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Cypriot MP
Christos Pourgourides leaves on Monday for Paris to chair a Committee
session on Tuesday.
The meeting will deal with concepts of national sovereignty and
statehood in contemporary international law, the need to establish an
independent European committee to investigate serious allegations of
gross and systematic violations of human rights, PACE reform as well as
further strengthening torture prevention mechanisms in Europe.
