[01] GOVERNMENT MISSING PERSONS
Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou said on Wednesday that all
hints given in the past regarding the fate of living missing persons
have been extensively probed.
Speaking in the afternoon during the session of the 100-member Advisory
Body of the Pancyprian Organization of Parents and Relatives of
Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons, Iacovou stated that all such
information is being investigated by Cypriot, as well as Greek
authorities.
He said moreover that Turkey constantly refuses to take up its
responsibilities in that issue, adding that the Government is trying to
persuade other countries to exert their influence to Ankara, in order
to cooperate in the investigations of the missing. Referring to a past
incidence during his term as Ambassador in Bonn, Iacovou said that the
Government was even willing to pay in exchange for information on a
case of a missing person, but added that the effort did not bear
fruit.
