    President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias said on Tuesday that he is ready to continue dialogue with Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu when Eroglou health allows it.

    Asked about the schedule of meetings in the framework of the ongoing UN-led direct negotiations between the leaders of the two communities, President Christofias said that he expects Eroglus doctors to determine when he will be ready to return to his duties.

    President Christofias wished the Turkish Cypriot leader, who underwent open-heart surgery in Ankara on Sunday, a speedy recovery. He also wished him and the whole Turkish Cypriot community a Happy New Year.

    Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

    Peace talks began in September 2008 between President Christofias and former Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat. Talks continue now with Eroglu, who succeeded Talat in April this year.

    [02] HOUSE PRESIDENT - CYPRUS PROBLEM

    Negotiations between the leaders of the two communities must continue, however what is of great importance is the content of the proposals introduced by the Turkish side, President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian has stressed.

    He also expressed the wish Turkish Cypriot leader`s health condition not to lead to an attempt of deceleration in the negotiations.

    Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu has undergone an open-heart surgery in Ankara on Sunday.

    Speaking during his visits at Army Camps on the occasion of Christmas and New Year vacations, Garoyian stressed that direct talks between the two leaders must continue, adding that the Turkish side has not showed any will to change its intransigent stance.

    [03] CYPRUS - ADDITIONAL FLIGHTS

    Eight additional flights, three departures from Stansted airport and five arrivals, one from Brussels, one from Heathrow and three from Stansted, are conducted on Tuesday to transfer to Cyprus people that have been stranded in European airports due to the5 bad weather in Europe.

    At approximately ten in the morning local time a Cyprus Airways flight arrived from Heathrow to Larnaca airport, carrying 297 passengers while according to all indications all scheduled flights are expected to take place to and from Britain.

    Hermes Airports spokesman Adamos Aspris said that there is a slight improvement of the situation, but time will be needed so that things will get back to normal as regards air transportations from and to Europe.

    [04] CHRISTOFIAS - CYPRUS - MARROW DONORS

    Cyprus has the highest per capita ratio of volunteer bone marrow donors in the world, President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias has said.

    The President was addressing an event organised by the Bank of Cyprus, the Karaiskakio Foundation and the Research Center for Hematologic Malignancies, during which the volunteer bone marrow donors for 2010 were honored. During the event, the Bank of Cyprus announced a donation of 2 million euro for the Research Center for Hematologic Malignancies.

    Addressing the event, the President said that ``our vision is to create a powerful social alliance which can promote and serve public health through controlled mechanisms``.
