[01] COMMERCE MINISTER TOURIST ARRIVALSMinister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides, said he was satisfied with tourist arrivals to Cyprus. Addressing the Annual General Assembly of the Cyprus Hotel Managers Association (PASYDIXE), the Minister said that despite the world economic crisis, the closure of the Eurocypria air company, the strikes in Greece and the problems in aviation caused in April by the eruption of the volcano in Iceland, tourist arrivals to Cyprus, so far, are satisfactory.He noted though that the government remains vigilant and will focus on upgrading the quality of Cyprus tourism. The Minister added that the government`s new tourism strategy for 2011 - 2015, aims at upgrading the quality offered with the ultimate goal to turn the island into a special tourism destination. ``I urge you therefore to emphasise on the factor of quality so that we can win the battle against the world economic crisis and competition``, he said, addressing the PASYDIXE members. Moreover, Paschalides said that the Cyprus Tourism Organisation`s (CTO) action plan aims at reviving winter tourism. [02] STATISTICAL SERVICE CYPRUS INFLATIONThe Statistical Service announced on Tuesday that the rate of inflation for November 2010 dropped to 1.7%, compared to 3.2% in October 2010 and 1.0% in November 2009.The fluctuation of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices in the category of housing, water, electricity and gas stood at 10.3% in November 2010, compared to -5.4% in November 2009, and in food and non-alcoholic beverages at -0.5%, compared to 1.1% during last year. In alcoholic beverages and tobacco the index was at -2.1%, compared to 3.6% last year, in clothing and footwear -0.1%, compared to -1,4% and in furnishings, household equipment and supplies -1.5% compared to 1.1% on November 2009.
