Á firefighting helicopter of Cyprus Police continued on Saturday to
contribute in efforts to help battle the huge forest fire close to the
northern city of Haifa at the slopes of Karmel hill, that has killed at
least 42 people and forced mass evacuations.
Police Spokesman Michalis Katsounotos told CNA that firefighting
efforts were reinforced on Saturday by other aircraft teams sent from
various countries and the situation is definitely better than Friday.
The only problem are the stormy winds although there is optimism that
with the reinforcement of efforts to battle the fire with new aircrafts
which arrived on Saturday morning at Israel from various countries, the
fire will get under control, he added.
According to the Police Spokesman the Cypriot team will remain in
Israel for as long it is needed while Cyprus Police and Fire Brigade
are ready to send ground teams in case they are asked to do so by the
government of Israel.
