  • [01] CYPRUS PRESIDENT - ATHENS

    Cyprus President Demetris Christofias will have a meeting on Tuesday with the Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou. The meeting will take place at Papandreous office at the Hellenic Parliament.

    President Christofias departed on Monday evening for Athens, at the invitation of the Speaker of the Hellenic Parliament Philipos Petsalnikos.

    The President will be the key speaker at a special meeting of the Hellenic Parliament plenary, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Cyprus. He will attend the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition titled Famagusta, a European ghost-city, at the Hellenic Parliament.

    During his stay in Athens, President Christofias will have a meeting on Tuesday morning with Petsalnikos. After that Christofias will hold a meeting for around an hour, with the George Papandreou.

    President Christofias returns to Larnaka Tuesday afternoon.

    [02] FM LONDON VISIT

    Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Kyprianou will hold this week a meeting with his British counterpart William Hague in London.

    According to an official press release, their discussion will focus on bilateral relations, the Cyprus issue and EU - Turkey relations.

    Kyprianou, who will visit the British capital 23 - 24 November, will also address the first meeting of the British All Party Parliamentary Group for Cyprus, which will take place at the British Parliament. The Cypriot Minister will brief British parliamentarians on the Cyprus issue

    [03] CYPRUS-ROMANIA AGRICULTURE MINISTERS - MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

    The Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment Demetris Eliades signed in Nicosia with his Romanian counterpart Valeriu Tabara a Memorandum of Understanding, aiming at furthering cooperation in agricultural issues and promoting common goals vis-a-vis the revision of the Common Agricultural Policy for 2014-2020.

    During a press conference, the two Ministers referred to the common goals shared by the two sides, both concerning the development of their bilateral relations and their cooperation at EU level.

    Eliades also expressed the gratitude of the Government of Cyprus to Romania, for its constant support to a Cyprus solution, based on UN resolutions and the acquis communautaire.

    The Cypriot Minister noted that the discussion on the CAP revision has just started in the European institutions, and said that the final decision will be taken during the Cyprus EU Presidency, in the second term of 2012.

    The Memorandum provides for the creation of two expert groups by the Ministries involved that will meet in Cyprus and Romania with the aim of promoting cooperation and exchanging best practices between the two sides.
