    Belgian State Secretary for Migration and Asylum Policy Melchior Wathelet is in Cyprus on Saturday on an official visit, accompanied by a multimember delegation, on behalf of the six-monthly rotating EU Belgian Presidency.

    The Belgian official will discuss migration procedures and asylum issues relating to Cyprus with Minister of Interior Neoklis Sylikiotis.

    The visit takes place following continuous representations by Cyprus to the EU for more practical solidarity among member states and a more balanced allocation of responsibilities regarding asylum issues.

    [02] PRESIDENT CHRISTOFIAS EU COUNCIL

    Cyprus President Demetris Christofias has described the decisions taken during the European Council meeting on the issue of economic governance as important, noting that the Cyprus economy does not threat the stability of the Eurozone.

    Cyprus does not constitute such a danger because, even if we have a crisis, we cant threat the Euro zone or the currency as such, Christofias said, and added: However, we should take our measures.

    President Christofias express his expectation the Republic of Cyprus will soon adopt a package of economic measures, which will be brought for approval before the House of Representatives.

    Christofias said that during the European Council, serious issues in relation with the economic crisis have been discussed. He pointed out that the European Council discussed and endorsed the report of the Task Force on economic governance

    [03] CYRPUS - SUMMER TIME ENDS

    Cyprus will revert to winter time on Sunday morning and clocks will have to go back one hour at 04.00 am local time (01.00 GMT).

    Summer time ends Sunday in all European Union member states.
