Replying to questions after a meeting of the Cabinet, Stephanou also said that during the meeting Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglou had in the framework of direct negotiations on the Cyprus problem, they continued discussions on the issue of property and they will continue this discussion during their next meeting.

Stephanou said there was nothing new to announce concerning the issue of the EU direct trade with the Turkish Cypriots. What is most important right now is the opening of the Limnitis something which the inhabitants of the region requested for many years, and this will be achieved tomorrow after hard efforts made for many months by the President of the Republic and our side with a view to open the Limnitis crossing point, in the framework of our policy to open as many crossing points as possible, without this of course constituting the settlement of the Cyprus problem.

The Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides have been engaged in direct negotiations since September 2008, with a view to solve the problem of Cyprus, divided since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974.

Several crossing points, along the ceasefire line, have opened in the past few years to facilitate movement to and from the islands occupied areas. President Christofias and Eroglu will also attend the opening of the Limnitis crossing point on Thursday.

[02] SPOKESMAN BRITISH COURT DECISION FLIGHTS

Speaking after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, Stephanou said that the decision reaffirms that international legality binds all members and especially EU member states.

``It is an especially important decision for the sovereign rights of the Republic of Cyprus and the rights it enjoys according to international law regarding direct flights to and from its territory,`` he said.

He added that the decision ``is fully in line with relevant UN resolutions on Cyprus and the regulations of the World Civil Aviation Organisation.``

Stephanou pointed out that, with the decision, ``all arguments of the Republic of Cyprus regarding the obligation of the Minister of Transport of the UK to dismiss the application of the so-called Turkish Cypriot airlines.``

[03] ARMENIAN HOUSE PRESIDENT CYPRUS VISIT

During his visit here, the Armenian official will be received by President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and hold a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart, President of the House of Representatives, Marios Garoyian.

According to an official press release, Abrahamyan will hold a series of separate meetings with Mayor of the Turkish occupied town of Famagusta and former House President Alexis Galanos, Mayor of Nicosia Eleni Mavrou and Mayor of Lefkara Andreas Sosilos. Moreover, the Armenian official will attend part of the House of Representatives plenary session.

[04] SLOVENIAN PRESIDENT HOUSE PRESIDENT

Speaking during a meeting with House of Representatives President Marios Garoyian, Turk referred to Turkey`s EU accession course, noting that he was aware of Cyprus` position on the issue and that Turkey must meet the obligations it has taken towards the EU.

Garoyian thanked Turk for Slovenia`s position of principle on the Cyprus problem and briefed him on current developments and the course of talks to reach a settlement, pointing out the continuous efforts of the Greek Cypriot side for a just and viable solution, based on UN Security Council resolutions and EU principles and values.

He also expressed disappointment over the lack of substantive progress, mainly due to Turkey`s insistence on proposals outside the agreed framework of a bizonal bicommunal federation.
