An official press release said that during their meeting the two officials reviewed the two countries bilateral relations and looked into ways for their further development at both the political and the economic-trade field. They also discussed other international and regional issues.

Kyprianou briefed the Sheikh on the course of direct talks aiming to solve the problem of Cyprus, divided since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974. On his part, Al Nahyan expressed his countrys support in efforts for a Cyprus settlement.

The two ministers also discussed about the EU-Gulf Cooperation Council relations and Kyprianou briefed the Sheikh about the initiatives of the Republic of Cyprus aiming at the further development and deepening of these relations. After the meeting the two ministers gave a press conference during which Al Nahyan said that the two countries are aiming to conclude many agreements as the Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Agreement for the Protection and Promotion of Investments.

Kyprianou said they discussed ways for further developing their bilateral relations in various fields while referring to the Middle East problem, he said that the construction of new illegal establishments in Eastern Jerusalem complicates and undermines efforts to begin proximity talks.
