  • [01] GREEK PM - CYPRUS - OFFICIAL VISIT

Greece`s new Prime Minister George Papandreou has arrived in Cyprus for a two-day official visit.

He was welcomed at Larnaca Airport by President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias, accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou and Undersecretary to the President Titos Christophides.

    [02] SPOKESMAN - GREEK PM

Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has described an official visit to Cyprus by the Greek Prime Minister as exceptionally important, noting this is George Papandreous first official visit abroad. «The visit takes place at a very critical juncture as we are anticipating the December landmark, which signals Turkeys assessment by the European Union, the Spokesman added in his remarks at the annual Radiomarathon charity event.

The government, he said, will continue to work until December on the basis of the European Commission progress report on Turkey which notes that Ankara has not met its obligations, which would promote the strategic goal of a political settlement in Cyprus. If Turkey does not fulfill its EU commitments, Nicosia will examine all available options, at the time, he explained.

We want to see all options that are available to us and at the appropriate time, together, the political leadership acting in concert with Greece we shall take our decisions when the time is right, Stephanou said ahead of Papandreou`s official visit on Monday and Tuesday.
