Greece`s new Prime Minister George Papandreou will be launching his
official visits with a trip to Cyprus.
According to an official press release, Papandreou is scheduled to
arrive in Cyprus on October 19.

President of the House of Representatives Marios Garoyian said here
today that the Cyprus problem has been the focus of parliamentary
activity abroad during the past legislative period.
Speaking Wednesday at a press conference on the work of the House of
Representatives during the Third Session of the 9th Legislative Period,
Garoyian said that the members of the Cypriot Parliament have embarked
on a campaign to brief their interlocutors about the latest
developments regarding the Cyprus issue and the different aspects of
the problem.
He added that they have highlighted, at the same time, the commitment
of the Greek Cypriot side to reach an agreed, functional and viable
solution of the Cyprus problem based on a bizonal, bicommunal
federation, on the basis of the High Level Agreements of 1977 and 1979,
relevant UN resolutions and EU values and principles.
``We have also outlined Turkish intransigence, which has led to poor
results only in the first round of direct negotiations. We have called
on our interlocutors to make an effort and exercise substantive
international pressure on Ankara, which still holds the key to the
solution of the Cyprus problem, he stressed.
