[01] DEFENCE MINISTER - CYPRUS - ESDPCypriot Minister of Defence Costas Papacostas said that, ``despite the fact that the Cyprus problem remains unresolved and that 37 per cent of the territory of our country is still under occupation, the Republic of Cyprus actively participates in the majority of European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) operations to reinforce in every way the effort of the EU to establish a common ESDP.````A just and viable solution to the Cyprus problem would enable Cyprus to play a greater role towards that end,`` he added. Addressing an ESDP orientation course, organised in Cyprus by the Ministry of Defence in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Papacostas said that ``the efforts of the Republic of Cyprus for peace and stability are focused on the substantive talks which resumed in Nicosia on 3 September 2008, aiming to put an end to the 35-year-long forcible division of the island because of the Turkish invasion in 1974.`` [02] CYPRUS - HEALTH TOURISM - CONFERENCEThe Cyprus Tourism Organisation, in cooperation with the European Health Management Association, is organising a one-day European conference on ``Managing Cross Border Healthcare - New era, new opportunities?``.The conference, which will take place on November 19 in Larnaca, will examine the new market of ``Health Tourism``, which is calculated at 20 billion dollars, with an impressive annual growth rate. According to a press release, it is expected that by 2012, in absolute numbers, 12 million people will be traveling for health purposes every year. [03] CYPRUS - UNEMPLOYMENT RATE - 2009 Q2Unemployment rate stood at 5,2% of the labour force in Cyprus during the 2nd quarter of 2009 (males 4,9% and females 5,5%) while in the corresponding quarter of 2008 the rate was lower, at 3,1% (males 2,6% and females 3,9%), according to the results of the Labour Force Survey, issued by the Statistical Service.The survey was carried out in accordance with a European Union Regulation, for the 2nd quarter of 2009, and according to its results the number of employed persons amounted to 382,9 thousand (males 211,4 thousand and females 171,5 thousand) and the number of unemployed persons to 20,9 thousand (males 11,0 thousand and females 9,9 thousand).
