    Archbishop of the Church of Cyprus Chrysostomos II and Polish Orthodox Churchs leader, Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland Sawa prayed Wednesday at a service held at the Monastery of Saints Martha and Mary on the Holy Mount of Grabarka for the justice and freedom of Cyprus.

    Archbishop Chrysostomos II, who continues his official visit to Poland at the invitation of Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland Sawa, said the two Churches, despite their numeral size, because of Cyprus and Polands accession to the EU, have both responsibilities and prospects.

    According to an announcement issued here by the Holy Archbishopric, Archbishop Chrysostomos in a speech he delivered during the service at the Monastery of Saints Martha and Mary, he referred to Cyprus issue and underlined that more than 500 orthodox churches in the occupied areas of Cyprus since 1974, have been destroyed and pillaged by the Turkish occupation army.

    Additionally, Archbishop Chrysostomos II referred to the Turkish continues effort to change the demographic character of the island bringing to Cyprus occupied areas settlers from Turkey.

    [02] KYRIAKOS IOANNOY BERLIN FINAL

    Cypriot athlete Kyriakos Ioannou qualified Wednesday for the final in mens high jump in the World Athletics Championships, currently underway in Berlin, Germany.

    Ioannou, with a 2.30 metre jump, which is the qualification standard, ranked first in the qualification round and the only athlete who jumped 2.30 in his first attempt.

    The mens high jump final will take place on Friday.

    Kyriakos Ioannou was born in Limassol. His personal best jump and Cypriot national record is 2.35 metres, achieved at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka where he won the bronze medal.
