Cypriot tennis player Marcos Baghdatis climbed 25 places in the ATP
World Tour ranking after securing the championship at the mens single
at the Odlum Brown Van Open over the weekend and now ranks 111th with
580 points.
The title is Baghdatis first at any level since triumphing at the ATP
World Tour 250 tennis tournament in Zagreb in February 2007 and gives
him a boost in the South African Airways 2009 ATP Rankings, moving him
up to No. 111.
Baghdatis has been seeded fourth in the LG & T Tennis Challenger in
Binghamton, New York, and will open his campaign against Polands Jerzy
Janowicz. Also in the field are Denis Istomin, Paul Capdeville, Chris
Guccione and Carsten Ball.
