Christofias statements came after his 39th meeting with Talat, in the framework of UN-led direct negotiations aiming at a settlement of the Cyprus problem, during which the two leaders continued their discussion on the issues relating to aliens, immigration, asylum and citizenship. Christofias said they will conclude their discussion on these issues next week, but that does not mean that they will reach an agreement on them.

He also said that during their next meeting on August 6 they will also discuss ways to move forward during the second phase of the talks.

Asked if during the meeting they discussed about the number of Turkish settlers that will remain on the island, Christofias said they did not discuss it.

Invited to say if they talked about the issue of the opening of Liminits crossing point he said that they did not discuss it, noting that his agreement with Talat on this issue is still to be implemented.

He noted that he is worried that there will be delays that will create problems for the people who live there and generally.

I want to believe that both the UN, the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot side will contribute with a view to speed up the process he added.

Speaking on Thursday at the 7th General Assembly of the World Inter-Parliamentary Union of Hellenism pointed out that the initiatives of President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias for a solution have created the preconditions for progress, and assured that ``Greece is always supportive, always present, always ready to contribute, in any way possible, to the struggle of the Cypriot political leadership for a solution.``

Referring to Turkey`s EU accession course, Bakoyiannis said ``there is no Europe a la carte for anyone`` and noted that Greece`s position was clear concerning ``full conformation, full accession, no derogations, no blank cheque.``

She added that the Turkish occupation of part of Cyprus is ``an unacceptable situation for modern Europe`` and that a solution should be based on ``a bizonal bicommunal federation,`` in line with UN resolutions and EU principles and values.

[03] SAILING - KONTIDES - 9TH

According to the Cyprus Sailing Federation, after his very good performance in the Mediterranean Games in Pescara at the beginning of the month, Kontides leapt 13 places and from 22nd is now ranking 9th.

Kontides, who ranked 57th at the beginning of the year, said he was very happy to be in the top ten in the sport, and assured he would keep up the hard work.

His next race will be in Sweden for the European championship.

[04] PAPHOS - WHITE WALLABY

This is one of the four white kangaroos living in the world today: there are two in Britain, one in Australia and one in Cyprus. The kangaroo was born two months ago at the Park.

Director and owner of the park Christos Christoforou said that the Wallaby kangaroos are found in Australia and is a rare species since during the last thirty years no other white kangaroo was born anywhere in the world.
