[01] AGRICULTURE MINISTER - WATERHigh temperatures have resulted in the increased water consumption on the island, according to Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Michalis Polynikis.Speaking at Paphos, Polynikis indicated that Cyprus will never be thirsty again and clarified that in the near future, the water reserves of the island will not be dependent on rainfall as the construction of planned desalination units proceeds as scheduled. As he noted, the plans of the Ministry on this important issue proceed well and soon we will not be dependent on rainfalls. He underlined that the management of the islands water reserves is carried out properly and under no circumstances we will face again a situation like last year when the dams where virtually dried up. Regarding the desalination units which are under construction, he noted that the desalination unit of Kouklia, near Paphos, will be completed next April. Polynikis said from that particular desalination unit, water will be also supplied to Pissouri through a pipe which will measure 17,5 km. According to the latest weather forecast a seasonal low pressure combined with a hot aerial mass is covering the area of Cyprus. The maximum temperature today will rise to 40 degrees Celsius inland, 36 degrees on the South, East and North coast, 34 degrees on the West coast and around 30 on the mountains. For tomorrow, the Meteorological Service predicts that there will be a slight decrease in temperatures. [02] CHURCH OF CYPRUS - ECHRArchbishop Chrysostomos II said the Churchs application to the European Court of Human Rights to report Turkey for violation of its rights and usurpation of its property in the Turkish occupied areas must be well prepared before it is submitted. To a question about the application, the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church on the island said we are trying through the Land Registry Office and the Church Committees to obtain all evidence because we want an application that is complete as possible, from every angle. Asked when the application will be submitted, the Archbishop replied this might take place tomorrow morning or in two months. The application must be well documented. In a press conference last May, the Archbishop had said the Church will base its defense on the case law of private cases and the 4th Interstate application of Cyprus against Turkey.
