Vietnamese deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Phan Gia Khiem, on an official visit to Greece, has said that the Cyprus issue must be resolved within the framework of the UN. Speaking after a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyiannis, Khiem expressed the strong interest of his country in the question of Cyprus, adding that his government shares the concerns of Greece on the matter.

«We believe that the Cyprus issue must be resolved within the framework of the United Nations and we respect UN resolutions», he said. Bakoyiannis said she had an interesting discussion with Khiem, which covered a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues as well as the international financial recession.

She added that among the topics discussed were the issue of the name of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Greco-Turkish relations, and illegal immigration. Bakoyiannis also said that they would discuss the Cyprus issue as well as the initiatives taken by the Greek presidency of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), during an official dinner.
