[01] PRESIDENT OVERSEASPresident of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias has stressed that the government acknowledges and very much appreciates the role overseas Cypriots and their organisations play in the efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.In his address, which was read out at the 11th Conference of the Federation of Cypriot Organisations in Greece (OKOE), President Christofias said ``our overseas Cypriots act as ambassadors of our country abroad by highlighting our culture as well as the political problem we face in Cyprus``. He added that the government has begun increasing the financial assistance it grants to the overseas organisations in order to upgrade their action. President Christofias went on to add that we have substantially increased the budget for enlightenment, noting that a decision is expected regarding the reorganisation of enlightenment in order to become more efficient, more flexible and more specific. In his address at the Conference, Greeces Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos stressed that Cyprus great heritage is its overseas Cypriots. Describing Junes European Parliament elections as critical for the course of the European integration, he said that there can be no European integration ``unless the wall which divides Cyprus in two ceases to exist``. He concluded by saying that the struggle for the liberation of Cyprus will be carried out with unity by all and beyond party ideologies. Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. [02] SPOKESMAN GREECE SUPPORTGovernment Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has said that with Greeces substantive support Cyprus can hope to succeed in solving the Cyprus problem.Stephanou was addressing the 11th Conference of the Federation of Cypriot Organizations in Greece (OKOE), the deliberations of which began Saturday in Athens. The opening of the conference was attended by Greeces Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Ambassador of Cyprus to Greece George Georgis, MPs and representatives of Greek and Cypriot parties as well as a representative of overseas Turkish Cypriots.
