  • [01] LEADERS TALKS - 28TH MEETING

President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat will hold on Thursday their 28th meeting in the framework of the UN-led direct negotiations, with a view to reach a settlement of the Cyprus problem.

The two leaders are expected to continue discussions on economic matters.

During their previous meeting on May 5th, the two leaders assessed the work done so far and decided to intensify their efforts.

Cyprus, which joined the EU in 2004, has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.

President Christofias and Talat have been engaged in direct negotiations since September 2008 with an aim to reach a solution of the Cyprus problem and reunite the island.
