  • [01] BROWN CYPRUS ISSUE

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has stressed that the British government can and will contribute to the achievement of a solution in Cyprus.

The British Premier, who attended Wednesday a reception given at the Foreign Office in London by British Minister for Europe, Caroline Flint, for Cypriots living in the UK, said that the solution of the Cyprus problem must come by Cypriots themselves.

You know that we in Britain believe that we can play a part and want to play a part in a solution that obviously is by Cypriots but a solution we believe we can help and do every thing we can to do so, he underlined.

    [02] MINISTER QATAR INVESTMENTS

Minister of Finance Charilaos Stavrakis has said that Cyprus is satisfied with the progress achieved so far regarding negotiations between Cyprus and Qatar for an investment in Nicosia on behalf of the Arab Gulf country.

Stavrakis, who is currently in Qatar accompanying Cypriot President Demetris Christofias during his official visit there, held a meeting Thursday with his Qatari counterpart, during which they discussed Qatars interest to invest in Nicosia for the construction of a hotel.

We are very satisfied with the progress of the negotiations, Stavrakis said after the meeting, noting that the investment would create thousands of jobs for Cypriots during and after the construction of the hotel.

He also described the investment as possibly the greatest foreign investment in Cyprus ever.
