[01] INTERIOR MINISTER - INFORMAL EU COUNCIL - IMMIGRATION
Cyprus Interior Minister Neoklis Sylikiotis, who attended the EU
Informal Justice and Home Affairs Council held in Prague, under the EU
Czech Presidency, said during his intervention that Cyprus is
confronted with increasing migratory pressures, that are intensified
due to the continuous flow of refugees from Iraq and the situation in
Gaza.
Sylikiotis noted that new information technologies will help EU member
states and the EU to manage more effectively the policy of controlling
external boarders and combating illegal immigration, as well as the
asylum policy.
He stressed however that the use of this new technology in these fields
must fully respect the citizens rights, including their personal data.
