  • [01] HOUSE - RESOLUTION - GAZA

The House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus demanded unanimously on Thursday from the Israeli government to terminate military operations in the Gaza Strip and the siege of Palestinian territory immediately.

In a resolution adopted during an extraordinary session, the House plenary said it is following the situation with ``great concern`` and especially the Israeli military attacks, adding that it expected the UN Security Council to deal with the matter immediately for the termination of clashes and the provision of urgent humanitarian aid to the people in the Gaza Strip.

It notes that the majority of victims are innocent civilians, including many children, and that the situation is turning into a humanitarian crisis due to the lack of food, water, energy and medicine.

The House deplored the Israeli military attacks against the Gaza Strip, as well as any terrorist attack causing victims among innocent Israeli and Palestinian civilians.

It furthermore reaffirmed its support to the UN Charter, international law and human rights, and said violence and its painful consequences destroy the prospect of a future dialogue for peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

The House also said it remains focused on the right to peaceful coexistence of the state of Israel and a Palestinian state, in conditions of security, with internationally recognised borders, in line with relevant UN resolutions.
