Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou and UN Secretary-Generals
Special Adviser for Cyprus, Alexander Downer had a working lunch on
Thursday, during which they reviewed progress in the ongoing direct
talks and discussed alternative working methods.
According to diplomatic sources, the UN are concerned about
accelerating the peace process but there is no specific proposal on the
matter and no commitment by the Greek Cypriot side.
We want results. This is not a race. Concluding discussions on a
chapter at half the time with half the results is not an option, the
same sources told CNA, adding that the UN believe that progress at the
direct talks so far is good.
The fact that there is convergence on some issues does not indicate
progress, they noted.
