[01] INTERIOR MINISTER - CHINA
Cypriot and Chinese Ministers of the Interior have reaffirmed the
excellent bilateral relations between their countries, saying they
would work to develop them even further. An official press release
notes that Cypriot Minister of the Interior Neoclis Sylikiotis, during
last weeks visit to China, met his Chinese counterpart Li Xue Ju with
whom he discussed issues of mutual concern.
Welcoming Sylikiotis, Li referred to the excellent relations between
Cyprus and China, the visits to China by the Cypriot President Demetris
Christofias as well as meetings with the Chinese President and the Vice
President and the exchanges of the two Ministries on issues such as
local government and civil defence.
Replying Sylikiotis noted the excellent relations between China and
Cyprus and expressed gratitude for China`s support to Cyprus at the UN
Security Council and other international fora. He also referred to the
role Cyprus as an EU member state wishes to play as a bridge between
the EU and friendly eastern countries, such as China.
