    Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov has stressed that his countrys policy towards the Cyprus issue remains unchanged, adding that Moscow supports a just and viable solution of the Cyprus problem based on relevant UN resolutions.

    In an interview with Greek newspaper Eleftherotypia and Russian magazine Greece, Lavrov said there is no possibility that Russia will recognise the puppet regime in the Turkish occupied areas of Cyprus and reiterated that developments in South Ossetia and Abkhazia cannot be linked to the Cyprus issue.

    Lavrov also welcomed the commencement of direct negotiations between the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus, saying that Cypriots themselves should reach a mutually agreed solution.

    [02] PRESIDENT ARMENIAN SERBIAN COUNTERPARTS

    President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias held, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, two separate meetings with the Presidents of Armenia and Serbia.

    President Christofias briefed his Armenian and Serbian counterparts on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue and the ongoing process, which began under UN auspices with a view to reunify Cyprus, divided since the Turkish invasion of 1974.

    Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, expressed his countrys full support towards Cyprus and informed President Christofias about his recent meeting with Turkish President Abdullah Gul. During his meeting with Serbian President Boris Tadic, President Christofias referred to the Cyprus issue and Tadic expressed his countrys gratitude for Cyprus stance regarding the Kosovo issue.

    [03] KYPRIANOU JORDANIAN FM MOUSA

    Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Kyprianou continued his bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

    Kyprianou held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan and the General Secretary of the Arab League.

    Kyprianou informed Jordanian Minister Salaheddin Al-Bashir about the Cyprus issue. They also discussed bilateral relations and issues concerning the Organisation of the Islamic Conference. During his meeting with Amr Moussa, General Secretary of the Arab League, Kyprianou referred to the latest developments in the Cyprus issue. They also reviewed the situation in the Middle East.
