[01] ACTIVISTS - RETURN FROM GAZA
Two boats, carrying activists of the Free Gaza Movement who set sail
last week to break the Israeli Gaza blockade, returned Friday to
Cyprus, with seven Palestinians from the besieged territory on board,
among them a teenager who needs an artificial leg.
The activists from 17 countries, aiming to break the Israeli sea
blockade on the civilian population of Gaza strip, had set sail from
Larnaca Port to Gaza on August 22 and reached the shores of Gaza on
August 23, patrolled by the Israeli navy. Among them are Greeks,
Americans, British and Palestinians.
``The mission went well and we achieved more than we expected. Our
basic aim was to open the way, and we succeeded, creating the
conditions for revising policies providing for the isolation of
Palestine and particularly the Gaza Strip,`` Vangelis Pissias captain
of one of the two vessels that carried the activists to Gaza said.
