[01] MINISTER OF COMMERCE - FUEL PRICES
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Antonis Paschalides has
decided not to set a government regulated ceiling on the retail price
of fuel.
The Minister has been informed by the Committee for Monitoring
Petroleum Prices about its conclusions on fuel prices in Cyprus. The
Committee convened Friday in an urgent meeting to examine international
and local retail prices in Cyprus.
I have examined the data given to me by the Committee. I concluded that
after recent decreases in retail prices, there is no need at this stage
to set a government regulated ceiling on retail prices for all or some
oil products, he told a press conference.
The Minister noted that Cyprus is among the cheapest EU countries as
regards fuel prices, mainly due to low petrol tax.
