[01] GAZA - ACTIVISTS - CYPRUS
Two boats with about 23 activists from the Free Gaza Movement sailed
into Larnaca Port on Wednesday for a two-day stop before departing for
Gaza to break the Israeli siege.
The activists from 17 countries, who sailed to Cyprus from Crete, will
be carrying 5,000 balloons to Gaza with the slogan ``Free Palestine.``
Member of the crew Panayiotis Politis said the mission has been in the
pipeline for over two years and that ``the aim is to break the Israeli
siege on the Gaza Strip port, where a ship has not sailed to since
1967.``
``What we are trying to do is show that the Mediterranean, a sea with a
great history, should be accessible by all peoples,`` he said, adding
that ``we want to reach Gaza, not only as a symbolic act, but as an act
that will open a free passage of communication for the Palestinians
with other Mediterranean countries.``
