    European Union Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes has said that Cyprus has put a big effort in economic development compared to other member states, adding that economic development here is in a good shape. Referring to the competition policy, she said that an instrument is needed with which we can implement the Lisbon agenda. When we are talking about economic growth, when we are talking about more jobs in Europe and in the single market, that can only be done by a fair level playing field for the business world, she added.

    Referring to the meeting she had with the Minister of Finance Charilaos Stavrakis, she said that they talked about economic development and added that Cyprus did a big effort in economic development compared to other member states. Economic development in Cyprus is in a good shape she noted.

    The European Commissioner said that with the Minister of Finance she discussed, inter alia, recent developments in the energy market, the telecommunications as well as how to further help reduce prices. We discussed the economic implications from a solution of the Cyprus problem, we discussed airlines, we discussed the drought and its devastating impact on the economy, ways of support for the farmers hit, she said.
