[01] GAROYIAN - CYPRUS PROBLEMCyprus House President Marios Garoyian has said that there should be a sufficient and clear negotiating basis and adequate progress at discussions bicommunal teams of experts are having, to allow direct negotiations between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot sides to begin.Invited to comment on a joint statement by Cyprus President Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot Leader Mehmet Ali Talat, issued after their meeting on Tuesday, Garoyian said that we have repeatedly said that there must be sufficient basis for the negotiations and enough progress at discussions at the working groups and the technical committees which deal with various aspects of the Cyprus question, with a view to prepare the ground for substantive negotiations, leading to a solution that will reunite Cyprus, which has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. The House President recommended patience for more concrete evaluation of the situation until after todays meeting of the National Council, when President Christofias will brief parliamentary parties on recent developments. He added though that the joint statement gives the impression that a comprehensive evaluation and assessment of the working groups and technical committees will take place during Christofias-Talat next meeting on July 25. [02] GREECE - CMPGreek Ambassador in Nicosia Demetrios Rallis presented the third member of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) Christophe Girod with a cheque for 100,000 euros, in the presence of the UN Secretary General`s Special Representative in Cyprus Taye Brook Zerihoun, to further strengthen the work of the CMP.According to an Embassy press release, the constitution is to fund the Exhumation, Identification and Return of Remains Programme of the CMP. The CMP expressed its ``profound gratitude to the Government of Greece for its generous donation of 100,000 euros,`` which will enable the CMP "to pursue its project on the Exhumation, Identification and Return of Remains of Missing Persons in 2008-2009.`` [03] HOUSE - LISBON TREATYThe House of Representatives will hold a debate on Thursday on the Lisbon Treaty, expected to last over five hours.Acting Permanent Secretary of the House, Socrates Socratous told CNA that representatives of the six parliamentary parties will speak in the morning and in the afternoon session the leaders of the parliamentary parties will take the floor.
