  • [01] IACOVOU - NAMI - MEETINGS

Presidential Commissioner George Iacovou and Ozdil Nami, adviser to Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, will be meeting again on Monday, since they have agreed on the agendas of the twelve working groups and an agreement is pending on one, while the list of persons to comprise the groups is almost finished.

Speaking after Friday`s meeting with Nami, Iacovou said ``we have an agreement on twelve and one remains,`` adding that they exchanged views and decided they needed another meeting to wrap up their work.

``We will meet again on Monday afternoon,`` Iacovou said, noting that they would use the weekend for brainstorming.

Asked when the technical committees and working groups would begin work, Iacovou said this was an issue he had to discuss with President Demetris Christofias, who he was updating daily.

    [02] SPOKESMAN - TALAT

Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou said the government was aware of and facilitated the visit of Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat to the government-controlled areas through the crossing point in Ledra Street.

``We believe that at this time that we are trying for a good climate, for a dialogue to help things, so that we can open the prospect for a settlement, we should facilitate and not make things difficult,`` he said.

Asked if the government know about the visit, Stephanou said it did. ``With short notice, Mr. Talat notified that he wished to cross over into the free areas and the government, naturally, not only allowed him to come but also helped him. After all, he is the leader of the Turkish Cypriot community and we want to facilitate contact, communication and the good climate,`` he added.
