  • [01] TINY KOX - CYPRUS QUESTION

Member of the Senate of the States General of the Netherlands and Chairperson of the Unified European Left Group in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Tiny Kox, has said that ``a peaceful and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem is a solution to a European problem.``

In a message sent to the symposium organised by leftwing AKEL political party on ``EU and the Cyprus problem``, Kox says he supports the reunification of Cyprus ``because peace and prosperity demand a united country and a united people instead of an artificial two state solution and a split community.``

He expresses his opposition to the Turkish occupation ``because the illegal occupation of part of your country by Turkish military is against the interests of both Greek and Turkish Cypriots, against resolutions of the United Nations, against international law and against the ideals and values of the Council of Europe,`` and to the partition of the island ``because the state of Cyprus was illegally and by force divided by foreign interventions, against the will and against the interests of the Cypriot people.``
