[01] SPOKESMAN - CYPRUS QUESTION
The Cyprus government has the obligation and the duty to undertake
initiatives during its term in office, with a view to create prospects
for a Cyprus settlement, Government Spokesman Vassilis Palmas has
said.
Palmas said that if the international community undertakes a new
initiative, this will have to relate to the implementation of July
agreement, of last year, adding that the government will move on the
basis of such an initiative.
Commenting on reports that a new initiative might be launched in March,
Palmas recalled that the UN Secretary General had stated that he would
want to undertake an initiative in March 2008, adding that his report
on the UN budget indicates that he wishes to see some movement and some
meetings between the President of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot
leader.
