[01] HOUSE PRESIDENT - CHINESE OFFICIAL - CYPRUS QUESTION
China is consistent and explicit in its position as regards the Cyprus
question and it will continue to maintain it, Vice Premier of the
People`s Republic of China Hui Liangyu said.
Speaking to the press after a meeting with Cyprus House President
Demetris Christofias, Liangyn said the two countries frequently hold
high-level visits and underlined that the policy of mutual confidence
is continuously established, while financial and commercial relations
between the two countries are developing smoothly.
He also said that the peaceful and friendly relations between Cyprus
and China are exemplary, noting that China wants to further promote
cooperation between the two countries in all fields, with a view to
upgrade their bilateral relations.
[02] ASIAN PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY - CYPRUS PROBLEM - RESOLUTION
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly has approved an amendment to its
resolution, which refers to a comprehensive, just and acceptable
settlement of the Cyprus problem under UN auspices, despite the
reactions of the Turkish delegation, which insisted on mentioning a
solution of two states, two peoples and two religions.
Participating in the discussion was Cypriot MP Eleni Theocharous, who
also addressed the Second Session of the Assembly, which ended on
Tuesday in Tehran.
Addressing the Second Session, Theocharous pointed out the need to
solve longstanding international problems, such as the Middle East
question and the Cyprus problem, on the basis of international law
principles and relevant UN resolutions.
