    Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos will be in Greece from November 26 to 29 for a working visit, during which he will hold talks with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.

    President Papadopoulos arrives in Athens on November 26 and on the same day he will attend an event in honour of Kyriacos Matsis, who fought and fell in the EOKA struggle against British colonial rule, in the mid 1950s.

    On November 27 he will have consecutive meetings with President of the Hellenic Parliament Demetrios Sioufas and President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias.

    He will also hold talks with Karmanalis, after which statements will be made to the media, followed by a working lunch with the Prime Minister.

    On the same day he will meet the leaders of Greek political parties.

    Furthermore, on November 28, President Papadopoulos will visit Artemida village, which sustained severe damage due to recent fires and which the Republic of Cyprus has undertaken to rebuild.

    President Papadopoulos, who flies back to Cyprus on November 29, will be accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis, Minister of the Interior Christos Patsalides, and other officials.

    The developments on the Cyprus issue were at the epicenter of a meeting in the Greek capital between President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias and Cypriot President of the House of Representatives Demetris Christofias.

    In statements after the meeting, Christofias said they talked about the prospects on the Cyprus problem, adding that the Greek President is a strong supporter of the Cyprus cause and the justice of the people of Cyprus. He thanked Papoulias for his struggles over the years and the firm principles he maintains as far as a solution to the Cyprus issue is concerned.

    Asked if the new atmosphere in the relations between Greece and Turkey, following yesterdays meeting between Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayip Erdogan, will affect the Cyprus issue, Christofias said he congratulated Greece, adding that development of relations with Turkey does not affect us.

    [03] CYPRIOT FM BRUSSELS

    Cypriot Foreign Minister Erato Kozakou- Markoullis, described as an important development, the European Commissions initiative to create an integrated maritime policy.

    Markoullis was speaking during a debate at the General Affairs and External Relations Council in Brussels.

    The Cypriot Foreign Minister said Cyprus congratulates the Commission and especially Commissioner for Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Joe Borg, who included this effort in the strategic aims and gave interested states the chance to express their views.

    Markoullis departs from Brussels Tuesday morning for Uganda to take part in the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting in Kampala from 21-22 November.

    [04] CYPRUS CHINA BUSINESS WEEK

    Cyprus is best positioned to serve as a stepping stone for Asian products and businesses to the lucrative EU and Near East markets, said here Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Antonis Michaelides, addressing the Euro-China Business Week that got underway on Monday.

    The Commerce Minister said that after the recent visit of President Tassos Papadopoulos to China, both sides have recognized the important role of Cyprus as a base for their operations in Europe, due to the islands strategic location.

    Every beginning is difficult Chinese Ambassador to Cyprus Zhao Yali said in his speech, referring to the important increase in commercial exchanges between China and Cyprus in the first nine months of 2007.

    Zhao said that in the first nine months of 2007, commercial exchanges between the two countries have reached 500 million dollars, something, which constitutes a historic record.
