[01] SPOKESMAN - TALAT - LETTER
Cypriot Government Spokesman Vassilis Palmas said on Friday that
Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, in a letter on September 26 to
the UN Secretary General regarding a speech delivered by President
Tassos Papadopoulos to the 62nd UN General Assembly, is in fact citing
the Annan plan.
Palmas said "we received Mr. Talat`s letter last night, a four-page
letter, through the Uited Nations."
"In essence, through his letter, Mr. Talat is trying to answer to the
speech made by the President of the Republic to the UN General
Assembly, and in essence, through his remarks and positions in the
four-page letter, is relegating to the Annan plan."
Asked if in his letter Talat indicated any intention of meeting with
President Papadopoulos before the February 2008 presidential elections,
Palmas said no meeting had been set.
"We have repeatedly said we are ready for a meeting to take place,
always aiming at the implementation of the July 8 agreement," he
added.
