[01] OVERSEAS CYPRIOTS - WORLD CONGRESS - RESOLUTIONS - CYPRUS QUESTION
Overseas Cypriots expressed hope that a meeting between Cyprus
President Tassos Papadopoulos and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali
Talat that will take place on the 5th of September, will result in the
implementation of the July 8 agreement, that will open the path for a
comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.
The 15th World Congress of the Overseas Cypriots wrapped up with the
approval of resolutions for the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, the
leaders of the five permanent members of the Security Council, the
President of the European Commission, the Prime Minister of Portugal,
who holds the EU rotating Presidency and the Prime Ministers of
Australia and Canada.
``We believe that a just, viable and workable solution to the Cyprus
problem should be based on the principles of the international law, the
EU acquis communautaire and in accordance with the UN resolutions,``
Overseas Cypriots stressed in their resolutions, adding that ``the
welfare of and prosperity of the people of Cyprus lie with the economic
integration of the two communities and the unification of the economy
of Cyprus and not with the encouragement of separatist tendencies.``
