[01] RANN - CYPRUS - TURKEYIt seems at the moment that there is the possibility of once again the military calling the tune in Turkey and if that happens then obviously that means that they do not have European values and do not abide by European laws, Premier of South Australia Mike Rann told CNA after being received by Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos.Rann reiterated his support to the struggle of Cyprus, noting that during his visit to the island he met, apart from the political leadership, with the lawyers acting on behalf of 15 South Australians of Cypriot origin, who lost their properties due to the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974 and who have filed cases against Turkey before the European Court of Human Rights, as Ranns government is funding these cases. He noted that it is very important for friends of the Republic of Cyprus around the world to keep up the struggle, adding that what Cyprus needs is friends in every international forum. [02] LILLIKAS - TURKEYThe political situation in Turkey is an obstacle in efforts to solve the Cyprus problem, said here Tuesday Foreign Minister George Lillikas, stressing however that as things stand only the implementation of a UN-brokered agreement can create preconditions for the future.Speaking after separate meetings with a delegation of the Union for Europe of the Nations (UEN) Political Group in the European Parliament and South Australian Premier Mike Rann, Lillikas said the implementation of the July 8 agreement, between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities, depends on the good will of Turkish Cypriots and Turkey. Asked about moves towards a settlement between now and Februarys presidential elections in Cyprus, Lillikas expressed the view that political developments on the island have never prevented nor hampered progress or discussion of the Cyprus problem.
