[01] CHIEF OF POLICE - RETIREMENT - INTERVIEW
The Chief of Police Charalambos Koulentis believes that the Cyprus
Police Force is making a lot of effort to meet its objectives and serve
the public through law and order.
After nearly 40 years of service with the police force, Koulentis
retires next week, leaving behind a much better organized and trained
local police, which has managed to reduce serious crime, improve
relations with the public and work very hard to combat the scourge of
fatal road accidents.
He said that bringing the police force in line with European Union
norms and regulation took a lot of effort, saying that cooperation with
Europol is as best as it can possibly be.
Koulentis regretted the increase in the possession and use of drugs and
the many deaths on the road but was happy to see that Cyprus role in
the global effort to combat international crime has become very
important, given the countrys geographical location.
