[01] PAPADOPOULOS - ROMANIACyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos left for Bucharest, on a three-day official visit.He is accompanied by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Antonis Michaelides, Cypriot businessmen and representatives of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation and the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry are also travelling to Romania. Papadopoulos will have meetings and talks with President of Romania Traian Basescu and Prime-Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu. He will also have talks at the Palace of the Parliament with the President of the Senate of Romania, Nicolae Vacaroiu, and later on with the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Bodgan Olteanu. The President will visit the Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Teoctist, and the General Mayor of Bucharest, Adriean Videanu. During his talks in Bucharest, he will discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations in trade, investment and tourism as well as the creation of preconditions allowing the development of structural corporate ties between Cyprus and Romania into the European Union, of which Romania is a member - state since 1 January 2007. According to the official program of the visit, Papadopoulos arrives in Bucharest just after midday Monday. There will be a welcome ceremony by the Romanian Mission of Honour and the Head of the Presidential Protocol will accompany President Papadopoulos to the Official Residence. On Tuesday, President Papadopoulos is going to meet in the morning with the Romanian President Traian Basescu at the Cotroceni Palace. The official welcome ceremony will take place at the Cotroceni Palace Then, the two Presidents will have tete-a-tete talks, followed by official talks with the participation of the two delegations and by the signing of a Cooperation Protocol between the governments of Romania and Cyprus in research and development. In the afternoon, Papadopoulos will visit the Palace of the Parliament to meet with President of the Senate of Romania, Nicolae Vacaroiu. Papadopoulos will sign the Book of Honour and visit the Plenary Hall of Senate. Papadopoulos is going to pay a similar visit to the Chamber of Deputies and have a meeting with the President of the Chamber, Bodgan Olteanu. Later on, in the afternoon, the President will visit the National Museum of Romanian History and then he will sit at a state banquet hosted by the President of Romania. On Wednesday Papadopoulos is going to have a meeting with Romanian Prime-Minister Calin Popescu Tarikeanu and later on he will visit the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to address the Romanian-Cypriot Business Forum. Papadopoulos arrives at the Patriarchy Palace, to meet with Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church Teoctist and then he will go to the Bucharest City Hall to meet with the General Mayor of Bucharest, Adriean Videanu and the Council of Municipality. The President will be presented with the Key of the City of Bucharest and will sign in the Book of Honour. In the afternoon of the same day, President Papadopoulos will visit the Village Museum ``Dimitrie Gusti`` and in the evening he will attend a reception on the occasion of the opening of a branch of the Bank of Cyprus. President Papadopoulos returns home late Wednesday night. [02] COMMONWEALTH - CYPRUSCypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos has renewed the Republics commitment to the Commonwealth`s shared values, which, as he noted, are especially important and sacred.Tolerance, respect, equality and the upholding of the fundamental principles of democracy, human rights and the rule of law, are not only central to our policy but also to our country`s being, Papadopoulos said in a message on the occasion of Commonwealth Day. Referring to the islands accession to the Commonwealth in 1961, soon after its independence, the President noted that since then the Republic of Cyprus has been firmly committed to the principles and ideals of the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth member states have steadfastly aligned themselves with the efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue. The Commonwealth has been continuously involved in the Cyprus issue, becoming even more active after the Turkish invasion of 1974. Our rightful claims and struggle for a just and viable solution have been consistently supported by the Commonwealth family, he said.
