[01] PAPADOPOULOS - KARAMANLIS - TALKSPresident of the Republic of Cyprus Tassos Papadopoulos will be in Athens 20 22 February for talks with the political leadership in Greece to discuss the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue.President Papadopoulos will have talks on February 21st with Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, followed by a joint press conference. In the afternoon of the same day, he will receive the leaders of the political parties in Greece. The following day President Papadopoulos will meet with the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias. The Cypriot President returns home on February 22nd. [02] PACE PRESIDENT - CYPRUS VISITPresident of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) Rene van der Linden will visit Cyprus from 19 to 22 February to promote dialogue and reconciliation between the Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.In remarks ahead of the visit, van der Linden said ``there will be no lasting resolution of the situation in Cyprus without serious and sustained dialogue between the two communities, at every possible level.`` ``We have already encouraged working contacts in our Assembly, where two Turkish Cypriot representatives participate in our activities,`` he added. ``As President of the Parliamentary Assembly, a body that relies on and promotes mutual respect and open dialogue,`` he continued, ``one of the main aims of my visit will be to try and bring people together.`` During his stay in Cyprus, van der Linden will be received by President Tassos Papadopoulos and meet House of Representatives President Demetris Christofias, Minister of Foreign Affairs George Lillikas, Minister of the Interior Neoklis Sylikiotis and the Cypriot delegation to the PACE. The PACE President will attend a working lunch hosted by members of the Cypriot parliamentary delegation to PACE and attended by representatives of the Turkish Cypriot community, who participate in PACE activities. Also, following a visit to the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping force and a tour of the buffer zone, he will cross over to the northern Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus to meet Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat. [03] FM - TURKEY - OILCypriot Foreign Minister George Lillikas has said that Turkey must prove in deeds that it can become a European country, by adopting a European political culture and abandoning its anachronistic method of threats towards its neighboring countries, including the Republic of Cyprus. Lillikas was replying to questions on Turkeys protests and threats regarding the separate agreements signed by the Republic of Cyprus with Egypt and with Lebanon for the delimitation of its exclusive economic zone to explore and exploit hydrocarbon reserves.Speaking during a joint press conference he held in Ljubljana with his Slovenian counterpart Dimitrij Rupel, Lillikas stressed that the agreements have been signed according to international law of the sea, they concern Cyprus, Lebanon and Egypt and that no other country has the right to intervene. If any state has any claims, I would refer them to the International Court at The Hague, he said. He assured that Cyprus would continue its policy to implement measures that have to do with its national interest, always in the framework of the international law and in collaboration with Egypt and Lebanon. The Slovenian Minister told reporters that during the meeting they discussed relations between the Republic of Cyprus and Turkey and he reiterated his countrys support for the Cypriot positions. I would like to stress that Cyprus and Slovenia share common positions on international problems and practically we agree and support each other on these issues, Rupel said. On the EU Turkey relations, he said that Slovenia has a very positive stance regarding Cyprus` positions, and noted that Slovenias and Cyprus views are very close.
