[01] TRUCK DRIVERS END STRIKE
Truck drivers have decided to end their strike and hold talks with the
House Transport Committee in a bid to solve differences that led to a
six day work stoppage. The decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday
night, following numerous appeals by the government and others to lift
the strike measures that have brought massive losses to the economy.
The drivers will present to the House Committee on Tuesday their
proposals regarding their demands and they will also submit proposals
to Communications and Works Minister Haris Thrasou and Minister of
Justice and Public Order Sofoklis Sofokleous.
Truck drivers say that the Licencing Authority continues to issue class
C licenses to private companies to serve their businesses, something
that is not in their interest and they want the actual legislation on C
licenses to be enforced by the government.
