Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexius II has expressed
satisfaction with the positions of Russias political leadership
regarding the Cyprus question and his conviction that these positions
will not change.
In an interview with CNA and Athens daily Eleftherotypia, Alexius
reiterated his support to a peaceful and just settlement of the Cyprus
problem and sent its warmest wishes to the Primate of the Church of
Cyprus Archbishop Chrysostomos II and to the Orthodox people of
Cyprus.
It is true that we have repeatedly supported a peaceful and just
settlement of the Cyprus question. We conveyed our concern to the state
leadership of the Russian Federation and will do our outmost so that
the rights of the Orthodox population of the island are not offended in
any way and the looting of Orthodox Churches is terminated, he added.
[02] CYPRUS - SYRIA - MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION
The Cypriot House of Representatives and the Syrian People`s Assembly
signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the aim to enhance their
friendly relations and to coordinate their actions in the international
parliamentary arena.
The Memorandum was signed by President of the House of Representatives
Demetris Christofias and President of the People`s Assembly of the
Syrian Arab Republic, Mahmoud Al Abrash, who is paying an official
visit to Cyprus.
In statements after the signing ceremony, Christofias expressed the
gratitude of the Cypriot people for Syria`s solidarity and support to
the efforts of Cyprus to achieve a just and viable solution of the
Cyprus problem.
