    European Union heads of state or government have provisionally endorsed the conclusions of Monday`s General Affairs Council meeting with regard to enlargement and in particular Turkey, according to the draft conclusions of the European Council.

    The 25 leaders remind acceding countries that they must be ready and able to ``fully assume the obligations of Union membership`` while they note that ``difficult issues such as administrative and judicial reforms and the fight against corruption will be addressed at an early stage`` with regard to the management and the quality of the negotiations with candidate countries.

    They also point out that ``the pace of the accession process depends on the results of the reforms in the negotiating country, with each country being judged on its own merits.``

    [02] UN SECURITY COUNCIL - UNFICYP - RESOLUTION

    UN SECURITY COUNCIL - UNFICYP - RESOLUTION

    The UN Security Council is expected later today to adopt a resolution renewing for a further six-month period the madate of the UN Peace-Keeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP).

    After consultations the 15-member body agreed on the content of the resolution.
