    An earthquake, measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale shook the south - eastern coastal town of Larnaca and nearby areas.

    The tremour was felt at 4.35 am local time (0135 GMT) in Larnaca and the south - eastern resorts of Ayia Napa, Paralimni, Kiti and Zygi.

    According to the Cyprus seismology centre, the epicentre of the earthquake was 10 kilometres south of the coast of Ayia Napa at a depth of 40 kilometres.

    There were no reports of casualties or damage.

    [02] CHURCH - ELECTIONS

    The Church of Cyprus completed the second phase of the election process for a new Archbishop, which began on Sunday, 24 September, when Orthodox Christians went to the polls to elect 1,400 special representatives.

    ิhe special representatives elected 100 general representatives, classified in the following manner: 50 for the Archbishopric district (clergy and laymen) and ten general representatives for each of the other five metropolitan districts.

    Church regulations stipulate that 34 of the 100 general representatives will be clerics.

    Final results are expected to be announced late in the afternoon.
