  • [01] BAKOYIANNIS - HOON - CYPRUS

Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs Dora Bakoyiannis will discuss on Tuesday with British Minister for Europe Geoffrey Hoon the latest developments in the Cyprus problem, as well as Turkey`s European course.

They will also discuss other issues of international concern that will be the focus of this month`s United Nations discussions, since Greece holds the monthly rotating presidency of the UN Security Council.

    [02] HELIOS - INQUIRY

Seven incidents concerning problems in the function of the Helios airways plane that crashed a year ago near Athens, killing all 121 people on board, mostly Cypriots, had been reported from the time of the aircraft`s registration until its fatal flight.

This was stated on Monday before the Commission of Inquiry that is looking into the causes of the air crash, by witness Marios Pantelis, consultant inspector of airworthiness at the Cypriot Department of Civil Aviation.

Pantelis told the President of the Commission Panayiotis Kallis that seven incidents had happened since the aircraft`s registration until its final flight, one of which concerns technical failure.

``These incidents are similar to the ones that occurred in other Helios airplanes and other airlines` aircraft,`` Pantelis said.
