[01] NEW MINISTER OF INTERIORCertain that the new Minister of the Interior Neoklis Sylikiotis will successfully fulfill his new duties, outgoing Minister Andreas Christou handed over the Ministry to his successor at a special ceremony held at the Ministry in Nicosia.``I am most certain that he will succeed and I am sure that the Ministry`s personnel will support him in fulfilling his new duties,`` Christou said. He described the new Minister as ``an energetic fighter, a man who works hard and in a corporate manner,`` saying that ``these and other qualities are imperative to the work in the Ministry, since our everyday concern is our citizens.`` Christou bid farewell to his associates and thanked them for their cooperation. The new Minister said that during the three-and-a-half years Christou was Minister of the Interior much important work has been achieved, with the cooperation of the Ministry`s personnel, adding that the work has upgraded the citizens` quality of life and has strengthened the social state. ``My door will always be open for all personnel. Working together will help complete the government`s programme in the remaining 18 months, before elections,`` Sylikiotis said. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Lazaros Savvides spoke on behalf of the Ministry`s staff and said that they will always stand by the new Minister to help him accomplish his work ``at this crucial time.`` Following the ceremony, Christou and Sylikiotis held a meeting with the participation of other Ministry officials, to inform the new Minister on current issues. Christou resigned today from the Ministry to run for Limassol Mayor in the forthcoming local authority elections. [02] CYPRUS AIRWAYS RESUMES FLIGHTS TO LEBANONCyprus Airways announced it has resumed on Friday its scheduled flights to Beirut Airport, which was closed since July 12th when the Israeli attack on Lebanon began.A Cyprus Airways press release said flights will be carried out daily according to the company`s timetable. Departure from Larnaca will be at 10 p.m. arriving at Beirut at 10.45 p.m. and departure from Beirut is at 07.20 a.m. and arrival at Larnaca at 8.05 a.m. The code flight is CY 342 and the return flight is CY 343. Cyprus Airways is one of the first airlines which carry flights after the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, connecting the neighboring country with the rest of the world. [03] CYPRUS RALLY LINE UPThe 2006 Cyprus Rally to be held between 21-24 September, will attract the local, regional and world driving elite.The organizers of the 2006 WRC Cyprus Rally have confirmed the entry list for this months event, ``and it is an impressive line-up of the worlds finest driving talent,`` a press release said. A total of 50 entrants from 20 different countries are set to leave the start ramp and compete one of the most popular rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC).
