    Prime Minister of Denmark Anders Fogh Rasmussen arrives in Cyprus today.

    Rasmussen on a two-day official visit, will hold talks with President of the Republic Tassos Papadopoulos.

    Tonight he will attend a private dinner at the Presidents residence.

    [02] LILLIKAS - TURKEY - EU

    Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs George Lillikas said Turkey "cannot proceed without implementing in practice the commitments which it voluntarily undertook towards the European Union," adding that "we cannot behave as if nothing has happened."

    Lillikas said the position of the Republic of Cyprus on this issue "is and remains steadfast," noting that "we are showing in practice that we will not concede," but "where we can," that is regarding the opening of chapters, "the policy we are following is such that does not allow the smooth accession course of Turkey."

    The Minister, who was speaking on Saturday evening at Larnaca Airport on his return from Brussels, was asked about the warnings of the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs towards Turkey regarding the fulfillment of its commitments towards Cyprus and the EU and the implementation of the protocol extending its customs union to the ten new EU members.

    [03] KYPRIA FESTIVAL 2006

    This year`s Kypria International Festival, encompassing an array of musical, dance, theatrical and pictorial art, will be held from September 4 to October 11, presenting glimpses from mythology to the present day, and sounds touching the classical and traditional repertoire with the participation of well-known artists from Cyprus and abroad.

    Most performances will be given in Nicosia and Limassol, and three in Larnaca. Tickets to the shows start at five pounds with a maximum of 15 pounds, depending on the cost of each performance.

    The opening of the festival will be held tonight at the Strovolos Municipal Theatre with a concert by the Youth Orchestra of Saxony.

    Friends of the theatre can watch Aristophanes` ``Thesmoforiazouses`` by the National Theatre of Greece, Mendis Bostantzoglou`s (aka Bost) ``Maria Pentayiotissa`` by Diadromi and the Cypriot production of Euripides` ``Ifigenia en Avlidi`` by Amfiktyo.

    Those opting for classical music can enjoy the Youth Orchestra of Saxony with soloist Christodoulos Georgiades, the Montpellier National Orchestra with maestro and soloist Spyros Pisynos, and the Cyprus State Orchestra along with the Helsinki Chamber Choir with maestro Agis Ioannides.

    Furthermore on the music scene Alkinoos Ioannides and Manolis Lidakis will be presenting a dedication to Manos Hadjidakis, Koulis Theodorou and George Karvelos will be performing ``St` ahnarka tou Geronimou Traoudisti`` with the participation of the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra, George Dalaras and Dulce Pontes will be performing songs of the Mediterranean, Larkos Larkou will be presenting the musical show ``Kyprogeneia``, and a jazz rock concert will be held under the title ``Four Electric Guitars``.

    Dance is represented this year by the Saint Petersburg Boris Eifman Ballet with Mozart`s Requiem, Joaquin Cortes will be performing ``Mi Soledad`` Flamenco show, and the National Ballet of Israel will be presenting Adolf Adams` ``Giselle`` with soloists from the Bolshoi Theatre.

    Opera this year is represented by the Stanislavsky Opera Company performing Puccini`s ``Madame Butterfly``.

    [04] PRESIDENT BASKETBALL

    Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos has sent a message to Greek Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, congratulating him on behalf of the government and the people of Cyprus on the success of the Greek national basketball team in the world basketball championship.

    President Papadopoulos praises the strength, collective spirit and sports ethos of the coach and players of the national team, who honoured Greece and Greek sport with their performance and successive victories that led the team to the final.

    The Greek team lost to Spain in the Mundobasket finals in Japan 47-70.
