Greek Automobile and Touring Association (ELPA) President Demetris
Despotopoulos has sent a letter to International Automobile
Federation`s (FIA) President Max Mosley, protesting the presence of
Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat to the Turkish Grand Prix award
ceremony last Sunday.
According to an ELPA press release, Despotopoulos described Talat`s
presence on the Turkish grand prix podium as an ``unacceptable and as
an act of political exploitation of a Formula One event.``
Mosley replied immediately notifying that he gave orders for the
launching of a ``full investigation into the circumstances in which the
leader of the Turkish Cypriot community Mehmet Ali Talat was invited to
present the winners trophy at the 2006 Turkish Grand Prix.``
``The results of the investigation will be announced the coming October
to the FIA Board of Directors,`` the press release added. ELPA is a FIA
member.
